• 1946
  Isaac departed Papakura Camp with the Japan-bound force, part of New Zealand's post-war contribution of troops to the occupation of Japan.
• 1946
  He sailed for Japan aboard the troopship Chitral with fellow New Zealand and Māori servicemen, arriving to serve as part of J Force.
• 1946–1949
  Isaac served as Trooper I. Smith, J Force, and later as Gunner I.C. Smith, Royal New Zealand Artillery — three years of service to New Zealand.
• 1946–1949
  His service was recognised with the New Zealand Service Medal, "For Service to New Zealand 1946–1949."
